We’re excited to introduce Burner Bitcoin, a new kind of hardware wallet that makes gifting, stacking, and securing digital assets as easy as possible.

If you’ve experienced Burner for Ethereum or Base, you know how easy and safe self-custody can be. Now, by popular demand, we’re bringing that same simplicity and robust security to Bitcoin. Burner isn’t just another crypto wallet—it’s a physical device that puts you in control of your Bitcoin without the hassle of traditional wallet apps.

Why Burner Bitcoin?

Burner is designed to make self-custody and Bitcoin gifting accessible to everyone, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced user. It’s a hardware wallet that removes the friction and complexity found in many other crypto wallets.

Manage your BTC easily and securely with BurnerOS.

Key Features Include:

  • App-free Setup: Works with any NFC-enabled iPhone or Android mobile device—no wallet apps or software wallets required. Just tap and go using BurnerOS, our simple web app for managing your Bitcoin securely.
  • Secure Chip + Seedless Design: Your private key is non-extractable and protected by the same secure chip hardware found in more expensive and complicated hardware wallets like Ledger and Trezor. Burner also removes the need for traditional seed phrases, making self-custody safer and simpler for most users.
  • Tap-to-sign Convenience: Sign transactions directly from your phone via NFC. This means you never have to expose your seed phrase or recovery phrase to an Internet-connected device.
  • PIN Protection: Each card is protected by a PIN code, with lockout after repeated failed attempts, adding an extra layer of security.
  • Affordable Backup: Back up your Burner to another for peace of mind—Burner makes redundancy easy and accessible.
  • Fully Open Source: Burner Bitcoin is built on open-source code, with libraries that let you interact at a low level, from web and desktop apps to command line tools. You can manage your wallet entirely offline, including on air-gapped PCs and with NFC readers, for maximum security.

How Does Burner Compare to Other Bitcoin Wallets?

Most Bitcoin wallets come with trade-offs—whether it’s complexity, a steep learning curve, cost, or missing features. Burner Bitcoin is different: it’s designed to combine hardware-level security, seedless recovery, and an easy-to-gift card format without the usual compromises.

The chart below compares Burner Bitcoin to other popular wallet types, including hardware wallets like Ledger and Trezor, software wallets such as Coinbase Wallet and Phantom, and traditional paper wallets.

FAQ: Burner Bitcoin

How does Burner Bitcoin work?

Burner Bitcoin is a complete Bitcoin hardware wallet that works with your smartphone’s NFC connection and web browser through the BurnerOS web app—no installation required. BurnerOS allows you to generate private keys, sign transactions, and check your Bitcoin balances. To send Bitcoin, just use BurnerOS to prepare the transaction and tap your Burner when prompted.

How secure is Burner Bitcoin?

Burner Bitcoin uses the same secure element chip technology found in more expensive hardware wallets. It generates keys from hardware-based randomness and extra entropy that you provide. Requests to sign transactions are PIN-code protected, and your card will permanently lock after 20 failed attempts. If you receive a Burner Bitcoin as a gift, you can verify whether or not its key has ever been used to sign a message.

Can I use Burner Bitcoin offline?

Yes, we offer open source libraries to interact with Burner Bitcoin at a low level. These libraries can be used with smartphone web apps, dedicated apps and command line interfaces. They also work with desktop PCs and hardwired NFC readers meaning you can use a fully offline desktop computer to interface with Burner Bitcoin for the highest security.

Who built Burner Bitcoin?

Burner Bitcoin was created by the team behind Offline Cash, a physical Bitcoin banknote that used secure NFC chips linked to physical paper notes for storing and gifting Bitcoin. Unlike Offline Cash, Burner Bitcoin is more resilient and capable, allowing the gifter to send any amount of Bitcoin without the need for a dedicated app or backend services.

If there is no seed phrase how can I back up Burner Bitcoin?

BurnerOS includes a Card Duplicator tool that can be used to backup one Burner Bitcoin to another. You can also verify whether a gifted Burner Bitcoin has been duplicated or is itself a duplicate.

How is Burner Bitcoin different from other wallets?

Burner Bitcoin is designed to make gifting Bitcoin easy without sacrificing simplicity or security. Unlike QR codes or seed phrases that require technical knowledge and external apps, Burner Bitcoin is immediately usable by the recipient through our simple BurnerOS web app. Compared to traditional hardware wallets, Burner Bitcoin has no steep learning curve; simply tap it to your phone and you’re ready to go.

Does Burner Bitcoin support Lightning or other Bitcoin assets?

No, Burner Bitcoin is a purely non-custodial Bitcoin product and does not currently support Lightning, Liquid, or Runes or Ordinals.

Let us know what additional Bitcoin Bitcoin features you would like to see.

Does Burner Bitcoin work on other chains?

Burner Bitcoin only works with Bitcoin. We offer other versions of Burner that support different blockchains, like Ethereum and Base.

What happens if Burner is no longer supported?

If for any reason BurnerOS stops working or is blocked in certain jurisdictions you can always interface with Burner Bitcoin through our open source libraries.
